thoughts on eating food

I cut open a yellow mingling with green and
black grapefruit today
with a serrated knife and thought
of you.  the yellow leather yielded;
showed an asymmetry
that reminded me of you.  the knife was slick,
the heat of the sun made my hands sticky
and remembered yours.  I used a spoon
sized too big to scoop out the pulp from between the cartilaginous
webbing, the sloppy action rupturing corpuscles with
spray finding my eye and
I wondered about you.  The emptied vessel I squeezed
in one hand and held a bowl
underneath to catch the sap that poured
and thunk it strange that a tree would
grow such a bitter seed inside a sweet fruit

basisism

baseball is to chewing gum
as champagne is to newspaper

See, the reasons that everyone complains
and associates pain
with taking out the checkbook and signing
a name in ink black as old blood

Is, because the same
folks who just sit back and watch
the dogwood sticks by the river twist
bend in the wind are in a museum gallery
quoting textbook predictions before the auction block
gavel hammers out the real fix that cant be factual

dogs loving people

dogs
staring into their owners
eyes

salivating,
 urinating oxytocin
laced emotion

owners, the real slaves,
they settle them down
and have no doubt
about the love
the dog has of them
and their leather wallet

Thaws

the biggest gun of them all
round translucent
a hovering shoreline circumnavigating
devoid of a settled feature though
consistent in its rupture

honored by us lest it destroys us
destroys its system
its children and dominion

even the mute turn their face to follow
where the barrel points
dumping charges and negatives
in every direction
a many headed hydra each mouth having many teeth
