on the level of where the water
settles and scores a line
the various times
higher and lower
always pushing the sky

animals

the weathered look
of the rabbit run
after the purple finch
after two hops on
the sidewalk takes off
right into the tree
and also in the yard

mud makes cakes
of feet heavy enough
to lay down to sleep
